Bad ads
« on: August 19, 2014, 09:14:51 PM »
Hiya folks,

Starting maybe a week ago, I occasionally get an ad that causes a full site redirect. Not good. You might want to look into that; I can provide the URLs next time it happens.

(No, not malware on my side. Limited to only this site; malware check is clean; the browser and OS I run are fairly unlikely to have that sort of malware in the first place; I've seen this on two different systems in two different locations with two different OS families.)

Chrome just blocked a re-direct from an ad on this forum for me, too.

It happened to me too. Full redirect to a suspicious "update software" download.

This forum has ads?

I keep adblock off for this website. It does after all cost money to run a server.

I use Adblock, but make up the difference in post volume.

I got this one today. I don't normally see ads on this forum. It redirected when I clicked on a thread.

Another one today - mack*epera*p2.zeobit.com (slightly censored to not give them link references on search engines; replace with e and a) to anyone who is digging through the issue.

MOD NOTE: Thanks for the info.  Passing it higher up the chain.

Hi everyone,

We are looking into this. It sounds like a bit of malware in our simple machines forum system itself. The only ad supporting this forum is a single Google AdSense box right at the bottom. This will never generate popups or redirects or otherwise exceed the boundaries of its little box. Similar problems have happened to the site in the past and always been easy to fix.

I'm hoping Kevin Worthington cones through for us again! But other help welcomed warmly too :-)

This is hopefully fixed.  Let us know if you're still experiencing it.
