One suggestion would be to look for the shorter journals (smaller numbers of pages). The ones that are 40+ or 50+ pages tend to have a lot of banter and side conversations and in-jokes among friends, which is cool, but it can be harder for a stranger to find an entry point.
Or, if I read a really good post by someone and I want to hear more from them, I'll look up their post history and see if they have a journal. If it's a big one, I usually read the last few pages to see where they're at now, then skip back to the beginning, and read the parts in between if and when I find the time.
