"New" posts skipping posts
« on: February 09, 2016, 08:02:21 PM »
Lately when i've been hitting the "new" icon next to posts in my updated topics list it has been skipping several posts.  It doesn't do it all the time, and it doesn't skip the same number each time, but it seems to be doing it about half the time.  It's been bothering me, and I have to scroll up in every thread I participate in because it's skipping them so frequently.  The first couple times I thought maybe I was just going crazy, or some how was mistaken, but it's been doing it a lot lately, and i'm positive the site is fucking up and skipping posts.  It just did it to me in the overheard at work thread.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Yes. Not often, but maybe once or twice a week.

Also occasionally posts show as "new" and unread, but I have read them already.   Seems to happen particularly when I use the "show unread posts since last visit".

I have noticed this as well. I'll be reading posts and realize I missed the context from posts that were skipped.

This.  I'll see  quote from someone and say to myself "I just posted in here 5 minutes ago...and I read every post up to that point.  Dafuq?" Then I scroll up and realize it was just posted and the new post button decided to skip me ahead several posts.

I only get this with the Overheard at Work thread but it happens almost every time.

Can anyone else verify if the problem is in multiple threads, or just the OaW thread?

For some reason this happens every time I read M41"s journal. I get skipped to the last post and have to back up.

Seems to be the only thread for me where that happens, but I check overheard so infrequently it could be happening without me realizing.

It has happened to me several times, including just now, in the "What small things did you do today to save money" thread.

I believe that it just happened to me with this very thread, but I am not certain I haven't hit the "mark all posts as read" button since this thread started. That will cause the skipping to happen, reasonably enough. But it has happened to me at other times when I am sure I haven't hit the button, and not only in the one thread.

Just happened in the Celebrations thread.

Thanks everyone. Will try to track down what's going on.

Also happens to me in M41's journal. Haven't noticed it anywhere else.

+1 for M41's journal.  Don't read OaW.

I'm having the opposite problem in the nomads thread (the orange "new" button keeps taking me back to old posts I've already read).

Tonight I'm having the same problem as brooklynguy.  Checking in on some journals, and the "new" button is taking me to posts that are days old, and already read.  When I tried to quote b-guy's post, it took me to the entire page's posts to quote.

The skipping ahead is still happening on M41's journal pretty regularly.

It's happening again really bad, on every single thread I go to.
