Title: What type of Businesses send gifts to out-of-state clients?
Post by: HPstache on November 09, 2018, 11:05:42 AM
I am working on slowly developing a side gig that finds its best sales with company's that do gifting around Christmas time, particularly to out-of-state clients.  I am trying to grow the business this Christmas season, so I am trying to think of businesses to pursue by sending them my product.  Does anyone have any experience sending or receiving Corporate Christmas gifts?  Can you all help me brainstorm types of businesses to target?  Figured the collective MMM brain would be a good one to pick.  If anyone wants to check out my website to help spark some ideas, I have a thread about it here:

Thank you for the input!  I have seen a few orders from law offices, but I totally forgot about them.  Maybe I will pursue a few of them locally.  Is there a particular practice of law that tends to do outside of state representation?  I know this is getting very specific... but I probably would not want to pursue lawyers specializing in divorce, traffic, etc.

Yeah. Avoid firms that represent individuals. Firms can expense things that go to clients, and the best clients are usually corporate representatives, insurance adjusters, and the like. People that refer cases to attorneys.

Possible fields:

Mergers and Acquisitions
Insurance Defense
Workers Compensation Defense
Commercial Liability
Business Law
International Law

Might be obvious but companies that do business in various states.  ie national or regional companies.

examples:

software vendors
consulting companies
service companies that are not localized (ie large company that services copiers, servers, etc)

This is pretty cool! I handle all the gift-giving at my company (a small management consulting firm) so I'm always on the lookout for new ideas, especially at this time of year. If we were located in Washington I would totally order from you.

The best advice I can give you is to target Executive Assistants, since they are typically the ones that take care of sending gifts.

The places/people we SEND gifts to annually at the holidays are our:

Accountant
Payroll provider
Webmaster
Panera catering coordinator

These are all fantastic idea so far, a few of them I would never have even considered!  I sent out a few text messages to friends in some of these industries to get a good contact for their company and I think I have some excitement brewing.  Any other ideas?

Commercial real estate industry. Brokers and property managers often have out of state clients that own property. If you own an office building in Seattle but live in Florida or New York a gift basket from the broker or property manager representing you is a small price to maintain that business relationship.
