CEO pay?

Any suggestions for resources to help determine fair CEO compensation? I figure it depends on size of the company, location, profitability, revenue, etc??? I found one report but it was $2500. Sites like PayScale.com give such a wide range that it seems unhelpful. Any suggestions?

What kind of company? What industry? How much gross/net profit?

And a big consideration is if this is (in my opinion) a real CEO, or "just" a founder/owner of a business. I have a company and sometimes I joke that I'm the CEO and janitor. I  refer to myself as the Founder/owner. I think it's silly to call oneself or others a CEO when there are none or only a handful of employees ... But most people these days love to use the c-level terms regardless of the size of the company.
