Small Business Accountant
« on: November 02, 2019, 06:33:21 AM »
It looks like I'm about to get my first major contract in a few weeks for my LLC. I'd like to find an accountant to make sure my entity elections are optimal and provide other strategy advice. Tax prep and bookkeeping is less important. Remote preferred, but familiar with California laws and regs. I'm also considering a cash balance plan mid-30s so it would be a bonus if they knew an administrator that would tailor a plan to me, but I can do that separately.

Any recommendations on specific firms or how to go about finding the right person?

No California expertise, just answering because no one else did.

I would guess that Googling search terms like "CPA small business California", "CPA California form of business", "CPA California business formation", and "business formation attorney California" would help to find practitioners with expertise. And that you'd narrow down the search results by reviewing their web pages, Yelping candidates that seem excellent, verifying through their state board that their licenses are current. Perhaps add a search term related to the specific business you wish to start, so you find practitioners who already know the industry.

But it's been over a week...you've probably done all that! So, good luck.

Appreciate the reply. I was hoping for a FIRE community member recommendation, but alas I’ll have to go the traditional route of google + interviews.
