Online business classes?
« on: January 11, 2018, 09:48:07 AM »
Hi there!

I'm new to the MMM forums, but have a question for those of you who are lifelong learners, or have started your own business recently.

My husband and I are planning to launch a product business in April. We both have experience in service business (photography, content writing, and software development) but are brand new to the wonderful world of selling physical items.

I was hoping to find a relevant online course, through Coursera, to help prepare myself for some of the potential obstacles we might face. But the last time I was on that site, it was free! The only thing you needed to worry about when it came to paying for classes was if you wanted a certification.

I just hopped back on there, and it looks like they've changed it to a $49/month subscription.

While that's a steal of a deal if you're always engaging in courses, I'm not 100% convinced that's where I want to spend our money right now.

All that to say, do you know of any similar sites --- preferably free --- that offer university-level education classes? I've got marketing in my background, but I'd like to dig a little deeper into online marketing and just a general overview of business.

Thank you! :)

What type of items will you be selling? How will you be selling them?

Watches, and we're going to sell them online, via our own site. We've got the design, content, and software/website needs covered. And we're avid Tim Ferris and Ramit Sethi fans, so we decided to go this route after brainstorming several different business ideas to see what stuck and met the requirements for good growth and margins and supplementary income. What we don't have are business backgrounds, per se. He's got an economics and communications background, and I've got writing and production. I've worked in marketing for several years, but I'd like something that can help me get a good grasp on things like tracking our business finances, handling business taxes, and it would be incredible to get something that helps me learn more about running an online business, specifically. Does that answer your question? I'm not 100% sure what all I need to know, but I know it would be ideal to know more than I currently do.
