How about this side hustle?
« on: March 05, 2018, 11:33:03 PM »
We have several guys around here that started their own little delivery service with their pick-up. One guy has bought an 8x10 enclosed trailer and hired 2 young guys to do the work for him. I don't know if he has more than 1 'crew' or not. It's something like Affordable Delivery or something like that.

Most guys just do it with their pick-up. Do they need special insurance? I'm sure they do. Do they have special insurance? I'm sure 99% do not. lol

They basically pick up furniture from stores and drop it off. If you want them to put it together I'm sure they will and hopefully the price is hefty since those things can usually take a long time to assemble.

Does anyone do anything like this?

I love anything that makes a buck. I don't do it but I like the idea. Some of the guys work alone. If they pick something up at a store the store will help load and once he gets to the drop off site the home owner probably needs to have someone there to help unload if the load weighs a lot of is heavy. That's how I do the washers & dryers.... I never take them up stairs. I have a professional dolly they can use once I get there. You would be surprised at the smaller females that lug those washers & dryers up the steps thinking I will change my mind when I get there. lol I then explain that they can either lug them up for I can take them back..... so far they have all got them up the stairs.

I was just putting this out there because you know all those people who say.... I can't find a J O B or for those wanting to make a few extra bucks in the evening.

There are lots of companies that started like 800gotjunk. It just takes a little effort. I'd never personally buy in to a franchise like that, I'm not sure how profitable it really is for the franchisee. Part of their marketing is to sit on the side of the road in their truck waiting for people to call so I'm guessing they don't make that much in profit when all is said and done. But the guys that started the business are raking in the profits.

Good post.
I think some of the best business opportunities are very simple stuff like this that just involve some manual labor and work ethic.   While everyone is searching around trying to be the next one to hit it rich sitting at their keyboard providing some internet service, there are a whole lot of folks out there making good money; cutting grass, washing windows, cleaning, landscaping, doing handyman work, removing snow, etc.

I'm actually quite surprised that SC93 posted this, seems like something you would just automatically do without questioning it ;)

Seems like a simple idea. Biggest thing will be finding the extra person to help with the bulky or heavy  items. I would imagine the bigger things would be a pain to move by oneself.

It actually reminded me of Brian Scudamore from 1-800-Got-Junk. I heard his NPR story and the guy was a regular dude who saw an opportunity to make money cleaning people's crap out their homes. He's worth over $150m now.

It's crazy isn't it? I mean people have been doing this for decades (often their property is littered with "stuff"). He just found a way to monetize the shit out of it. Good for him!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
