Can someone explain to me why someone would buy a gift card for more than its worth? Several listings like this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/500-VISA-Card-Sent-Activated-No-Fees-FREE-PRIORITY-SHIPPING-READY-TO-USE-/182718633769?hash=item2a8ae11729:g:S6QAAOSwjkVZfd91
Only thing I can think of is money laundering. What a way to make money?

Yeah that doesn't add up. There's no reason someone would want to purchase funds that have a limited use for more than the limited funds are. That makes no sense.

I was curious as well, so found a couple theories online...
- They are being purchased with stolen credit cards (easy way to get quick cash)
- Sometimes PayPal or Ebay offer coupons like "30% off" in which case that's a good use of coupon
- Money laundering - especially across the border
