Window sealing
« on: August 04, 2018, 07:57:37 PM »
I pulled the moulding around the window.
I was hoping I could spray window/door expanding foam in the gap.
The gap seems too narrow.

What would you do?

Where is the leak?  Is it between the window frame and the house framing?

Generally, I prefer to seal any leaks as close to the outside envelope of the house as possible, to keep the cold winter air as far from the interior as possible.

Caulk is one option.  Or, since all that drywall is behind the trim,  you could cut away more of the drywall in order to gain access to foam it more thoroughly.

I'd go with the Great Stuff Pro gun and the small tips it has (https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/aplusautomation/vendorimages/bc8f95e2-61a7-47d4-89b1-79a82912123c.jpg._CB309063310_.jpg) to get some doors and windows foam into the existing crack.

I have also opened up the the drywall a bit, as suggested zolotiyeruki, as long as it will be hidden by the trim.

Also, if the gap behind the drywall is still too small to fit the nozzle in, just grab a 1/4" drill bit and drill a hole through.  Then it'll be easy to get the nozzle in as far as you need.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
