Will Ceiling Tiles Ever Flatten Back Out?
« on: August 19, 2015, 08:11:25 AM »
We have a few dropped ceiling tiles that were stored standing upright that were extras from the installation. They have been standing there for at LEAST 3 years, so they are now bowed. If I store them flat again, or put them in the ceiling, will they go back to flat, or is this a lost cause?

What's left of the box says Armstrong, so it's something like this:

Says it's made of 'mineral fiber'.

Sorry, I don't have any experience with that type of tile.  I wonder if you could contact Armstrong and see what they say.  The probably have a customer service department somewhere that could be helpful.

While I have no idea... if it were me, I'd sandwich them between something flat with something heavy on top.  For example, lay them on the floor with a piece of plywood (or similar) on top and stack some books or barbells on them.  Leave them for a week or so and see what you have.

2x2 or 2x4? I've stored some of mine the same way and they will flatten back out but don't rush things, giving them time seems to be more critical than pressure. -C

They will flatten out, but maybe not as quickly as you like.  The pressing idea is a good one, it will help.
