What tool to remove bicycle sprocket?
« on: November 29, 2017, 11:17:37 AM »
I need to remove the Shimano sprocket gears on my mountain bike so I can replace a broken spoke. Is the following the correct tool to purchase? If so, is it Version A (silver guide pin one) or Version B (black one) that I need?

I've attached a picture of the gears to this post of that helps.

That tool looks like it is for 8,9 and 10 speed cassettes.  From your photo it looks like you have a 7 speed, so the spline is likely different.  Check Sheldon Brown for sure but I think you want a Park FR-1.3     Just buy the splined socket then use a big wrench.  It is nice to have a chain whip around, too.

Good luck

Thanks for the info. Very helpful videos. Mine is a Shimano Cassette Sprocket so it looks like I need one of the FR-5.2 tools, correct? Looks like the one with the smaller guide pin will work and it's available on Amazon.
