Suggestions on integrated LED ceiling lamps
« on: November 20, 2016, 04:39:26 PM »
Looking for a round LED lamp for the mudroom and a long rectangular one for above the sink (the sort that would replace a fluorescent tube). Don't need anything fancy. These are the integrated LEDs meaning the LED is integrated (obviously) with lamp vs. lamp taking a bulb. Went to Home Depot and found some a few options for $30-40 each. Lithonia and Commercial Electric brands.

Just wondering if there is anything else out there. Ideas on a good brand, source of LED lamps.  Seems like there should be somewhere better than Home Depot to find this stuff.

Set me straight.

Was in HD last night and they had several recessed LED fixtures for $6-8 range. Like this one, but a clearance pile of them on the shelf were $6 IIRC: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-5-in-and-6-in-White-Recessed-LED-Trim-with-2700K-92-CRI-CER6730DWH27/204726945

For a retrofit tube, HD carries a Philips retrofit ($7) that requires a working electronic ballast, but in exchange doesn't require rewiring the fixture. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-4-ft-T8-17-Watt-Daylight-Linear-LED-Light-Bulb-456608/206278132 (other colors avail as well)

The big box stores may not have the selection of a speciality lighting store, but if they have what you want, their prices are incredibly hard to beat on common items.

With LEDs, you want to go with ones that are rated for a longer lifespan.  The "10,000 hour" ones have LEDs that are being driven too hard, while 20,000 and up are gentler on their LEDs, although they tend to be slightly more expensive.

When you say that you're looking for a round fixture for the mudroom, are you looking for a recessed (can) light, or a fixture that mounts to the box in the ceiling?
