A drop of superglue on the knot will hold it in place if you can't find another solution.

I can think of a couple of ways to fix this.
The first thing to try is to sew with the existing thread like you're about to do... I would use backstitch (there's an explanation here, but if you have trouble understanding it I can try to find a video) to give it the look of machine stitching.  But if your thread is too short, you might be able to pull out spare threads from the inside seams if your couch covers are removable.

For the loose end, I agree with zolotiyeruki... after reaching the front seam, I'd make a couple of very tiny stitches, tuck the loose end into the seam, and use glue to tack it down.

Edited because I forgot the backstitch link!

I think that as long as you push the needle horizontally, you won't need access to the other side of the fabric.  If you have trouble pushing it through, try using a thimble (if you have one) so you don't hurt your fingers while applying force.

You can also try to find some curved upholstery needles. They look like bigger versions of the needles doctors use on people and they may make your task easier.

Very nice!  So glad it worked out for you.

And, as the saying goes, "It'll never be seen on a galloping horse." Only you will know that one speck on the couch is a little darker. I can't even see it in that photo.
