Should I hire a pro: Privacy fence

Hi all!

I'd like to install a 7' privacy wood fence around the circumference of my back yard - so about 50'x50'x50'.

I think my biggest concern is digging the holes for fence posts and getting them straight. I'm a pretty weak lady and am not sure I could make it look nice. My husband hates doing these kinds of projects with me, so I'd be on my own.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I've never poured concrete or handled large pieces of wood like this before.

You are going to need a bunch of holes for that project.  I just did 9 holes to put a roof on my chicken yard.  It took me the better part of 4 hours with a 1 man post hole auger.  I took a nother couple days to make sure the holes were at the right depth and then concrete in the the 10ft 4x4s.  It was rough work and I am a fairly large guy that is in decent shape.  Then for a privacy fence you are going to need panels unless you plan to stick build it.  It is not a difficult project but it is definitely labor intensive and tough for one person.

If you want to stick build your fence, you could hire out the posts, then buid the fence on your own.

The biggest concern I see is you say your a weak lady and your husband doesnt like to do these things. If the ground isnt full of rocks and is good for digging it can be pretty simple but if not then have someone come in and dig the holes. Just stating the obvious make sure you have your utilites marked ! Also are you going to set them in cement? Depending on what type of fence you put in you need to consider that. Get a few bids and present them to your husband for what you need and that will either motivate him and perhaps a friend or you will see its a bigger job than you might want to take on.  Like I said a few things you need to take into consideration. Nothing worse than digging a hole and keep hitting boulders.

Digging post holes with either a post hole digger or a tamping bar is (IMO) very physical work. And like others have mentioned already, that's presuming you don't hit a bunch of large rocks. Then trying to get everything looking nice and straight with only one person...

I would hire it out.
