Sealing gaps/prevent insects/crickets/critters?
« on: December 14, 2017, 03:11:25 PM »
Many crickets keep coming in the house somehow.

I notice this area, in the ceiling, in the basement. see photos. I don't know, but  maybe the crickets enter the house from this area? Is it a good idea to seal these areas up? what would be easiest, most effective way to seal it. Can I just put mortar or concrete around the area to seal it up?

We had similar issues and used the expanding spray foam to seal the leaks. I'm 99.9% sure this is what we used (13 years ago). We get a few bugs here and there, but nothing like we used to deal with.

The foam would be good to stop insects, but not for mice.

To stop mice, fill holes with copper mesh, something like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001IMLTO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

First, find all the holes and fill with copper mess, then use the expanding foam.  (I did it the other way and am still searching for spaces where mice get in).

Remember, mice can get in when is hole is dime sized!!!
