Project bike
« on: October 28, 2013, 01:47:05 PM »
The city I live in has a real problem with students abandoning their bikes when they leave, thus there is a ready supply of bikes that need fixin'!  I've been wanting to learn how to do bike repair, but my Gazelle Esprit is too darn reliable :).

So I've picked up an abandoned ladies Peugeot Monaco.  Not much to look at, typical late 80's or early 90's 5 speed road bike in black and grey.  I was going to keep it for myself, but I think it's a bit small.

What needs fixing:
[X] Rear flat (patched with free patch kit): £0
[X] Broken front fender, removed: £0
[ ] Tighten loose headset: £0
[ ] Saddle cover pulling away (going to Gorilla Glue it): £0
[ ] New tires (old ones have cracks in the sidewalls): ~£20
[ ] New shifter and brake cables: ~£10
[ ] New bar tape: ~£5

Projected cost of bike + repair: ~£35
Projected sale price: ~£80-100

You'll need headset wrenches, not allen keys, to adjust that headset, just as a heads up. get some waterproof grease and repack it while you're at it.

Cheers Russ, I'll probably go to the bike co-op for help with that, and use their tools.
