pressure washer?
« on: May 06, 2017, 11:54:15 AM »
I have been thinking of getting a pressure washer, but also am wondering if it is a good purchase or not.

The purpose would be to:
-clean wooden porch so that I can repaint it (currently is pretty grimy, and paint is old)
-clean wooden house sidings and repaint
-clean outdoors concrete/stone tiles that are part of patio, and full of moss.

I've borrowed pressure washers from friend in the past... repeatedly borrowing from friend's risks annoying them.

So, worthwhile purchase?  If so, recommendations?

Buy it on CL, sell it for the same amount (or more) when you're done with the work.

We bought a Karcher pressure washer several years ago on Amazon for around $100 on sale, and I've found it to be very handy. We pressure wash the deck every summer, but best of all we use it on all of our outdoor furniture. It looks like new afterwards!

Unless you need to use the pressure washer every year for maintenance, then I would recommend just renting one for the day.  It's better than having to take up space in your garage for 1-2 uses a year and also easier for most to just go to their local rental than it is to maintenance a small engine..

Thanks for all of the response.  Pressure washer ordered.

I looked around CL a bit, but the prices weren't much cheaper than what I was finding online to buy new with coupon codes.  Now I have a new one with a warranty.  We do plan to use it a fair amount, not just once.  Probably on an annual basis at the least, and this year we have multiple projects for it.  We got an electric one so maintenance should be less of an issue.  These of course produces less psi, but should be adequate for our applications.
