Lighting a pilot light
« on: July 09, 2014, 01:29:51 PM »
Easy, right?

Well, for starters I couldn't get the gas to shut off.

But later, I turned the lighter knob to 'off' as the instructions indicated, waited about 10 minutes.  But I could still smell just a whiff of gas.

I have a very, very sensitive nose.  My husband thinks that most people wouldn't have smelled the gas, and it was probably okay to turn it to 'pilot' and light it.

I'm so annoyed because I've taken two trips over to our rental to try to light the stupid light.

So my question.....if there is just the slightest hint of a gas smell........is it okay?

The knob is still in the off position, and we are going to go over there (again!) in about 30 minutes.

So ready to sell this rental! LOL.

And if I end up having to call a plumber...I'm going to be so super annoyed.  LOL.

We did it.....so I guess I can delete this thread.  Still smelled a little gas, hubby did it though while I took the kids up the drive and waited with phone in hand ready to call 911.    He said that while he could smell it, it wasn't enough to matter.  Glad we didn't blow up! :D
