Kindle no longer charging
« on: November 10, 2015, 07:20:48 AM »
I have a Kindle that's about 3 years old, given to me last year from my mother who never used it. I used it daily until it stopped charging/holding a charge. When I plug it in, the "charging" graphic pops up, so I know the port is working. I have googled around, but not found much helpful info. Is it worth replacing the batteries in these things?

Had this same problem...

1. Buy a new charger online (or use a friend's, try to charge it.)
-sometimes the chargers have USB port, you can try that too with your computer

2. Call Amazon and ask them what they can do about it... they offered me a replacement kindle when an older model just stopped working. They have fairly good customer service.

Best of luck

Thanks! I hadn't thought of either of those options.

Typically, yes.  Lithium Ion batteries degrade over time, starting with their manufacture date.  There isn't much you can do to slow it down, but overheating them can speed it up.  3 years is about the long end of life expectancy, so you got your money's worth.  There are several online battery stores that will sell you an aftermarket battery to fit perfectly, and it's not terribly difficult to do.

Amazon has excellent customer service in my opinion. They swapped out one of ours that went haywire free of charge. I bought it at Best Buy. I dropped mine and the screen shattered. It was a few years old. I did a trade in for a slightly newer model for not much $.

I recently ordered a pet product. It didnt work. I went to their site and it said it was not returnable. I talked to one of their reps. They refunded me and told me to keep or dispose of the item.  I later found I must have had a defective pack of batteries. One of my kids opened another new pack and put them in. It worked. I contacted Amazon letting them know I was wrong and it did work so they could recharge me. The rep told me not to worry about it but thanks for telling the.
