Hi there!
I have a sump pit in an outside walkway, with a sump pump that's connected by extension cord to a nearby GFCI outlet.

What's the right way to go about fixing this?
I'm thinking of
1. placing a new GFCI outlet against the house on those red shingles close to the sump pit, maybe a foot or two above grade
2. encasing that GFCI outlet inside of a waterproof metal access box (a NEMA box?)
3. drilling a hole into the bottom of the NEMA box, wide enough to fit 2" wide rigid metal conduit
4. drill a similarly wide hole in the side of the sump pit, a few inches below grade
5. connect the two holes with a 90 degree rigid metal conduit run (goes straight down from the box, then swings 90 degrees to the right into the sump pit below grade)
6. run the power cord from the sump pump in the pit through the rigid metal conduit, and have the plugs terminate inside of the metal access box with the GFCI outlet
Protected from the elements, protected from lawn mower risk, no exposed soft wiring.
Is this all... kosher?
