Homemade dust mop: what to use for 2 way hinge?
« on: September 05, 2017, 09:41:24 PM »
I'm in the market for a microfiber dust mop like this, but everything I've found looks like plastic crap. It seems like it wouldn't be that hard to make, but the bit I'm getting stuck on is how to make it hinge in two directions. Any ideas on what I might be able to use for a hinge joint like that? Ideally metal, although it almost seems like making something out of wood might work. Bonus points if we could come up with a way for it to screw onto a paint roller type handle.

A universal joint would be what I would look for. They can be bought individually with threaded ends or smooth bores like the one I linked.

Interesting. That does look pretty close to something that could work.

And it looks like something that could be DIY with some schedule 80 PVC pipe.

I use a 2' wood/metal warehouse broom in my house. Got it for $15. Cover is washable. No more $30 plastic pieces of crap microfiber mops that break after 5 uses.
