Help to build this Ikea Stool
« on: February 21, 2018, 09:11:20 AM »
I was looking for a stool idea for my 2 toddlers who are a little too big (and adventurous) to sit on the kitchen counters any longer.  I came across this Ikea Bekvam Hack that would be perfect for my 2 tots:  http://happygreylucky.com/ikea-hack-toddler-learning-tower-stool/

The problem is, I live about 3 hours away from the nearest Ikea and the Bekvam stool is unavailable to buy online (I called and asked).  I did find it on Amazon for $43/each and I seriously almost hit the "1-click" buy, then I realized I need 2 (because sharing...ugh)

So I started thinking "I could build that".  I'm not sure how I am going to build it.

From Ikea I know the dimensions are:

Depth: 15 3/8 ", Height: 19 5/8 ", Width: 16 7/8 "
It's 9.5" to the first step and 19.5" to the top of the stool.

What I don't know how to measure is the size of the top step and the first step.  I'm sure this is a common sense thing for someone not me.

I'm looking for help on how to sketch it out and advice on how to build it.  I feel like I am close but not quite there.  Help Please?

There are lots of ideas and detailed instructions at Ana White’s website. Here’s just one:

Please note that the Ikea one has it's legs splaying out a bit to be safer/more stable.

I agree, I would want a bit of a bigger spread between the front and back legs.

After much googling, I found this link:

http://www.hertoolbelt.com/kids-step-stool/

It has the wider spread for more stability.  I bought all the materials today and am planning to build it out over the next week after the kids go to sleep.

I'm not sure of the entire material cost yet, because I bought wood, glue, paint, and screws for several different projects.
