HDTV Amplifier
« on: November 25, 2013, 03:01:32 AM »
I was wondering what hdtv preamp is the best.  After reading some of the posts here I made my own stealth hawk antenna which works great.  I have a few channels that aren't very clear and was wondering what preamp is the best or even better does anyone know how to make one?

I'm not so sure an amplifier will make the signal any clearer, but they are good at boosting the strength of the signal if it is feeding multiple devices, or has a lot of cable in the system.  Where is the antenna mounted?  Can you raise it up higher?  Can it be aimed towards the broadcasting towers?

It is on top of my chimney which is about 25-30 feet in the air.  My lot is also about 5 feet above the street. I am running about 40-50 feet of cable to one TV. It's is aimed towards the towers.

Maybe this:

Pre HD days we used pre-amps in similar situations with good success, as long as they were quality.  Don't go cheap.  Cheap ones tend to be broadband amps (no filters), so they amplify interference that otherwise wouldn't be an issue.

I disconnected the surge protection and all channels are clear.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
