DIY Barn door styled window covers
« on: October 17, 2014, 02:59:13 PM »
I'm trying to find a way to mount barn door style window covering but can't find a somewhat inexpensive way to do it. I'm trying to mount them in my basement to dark out the room. See pictures and video. Any ideas? Everything I found so far is pretty expensive.

Kind of like this:

This one is unrelated but found it during my search...pretty funny!

Ohhh...I like it! I'll head to Lowes tomorrow to price it out. Just need to find a good attachment for the wall.

This decorating blog started with that same image as inspiration, but got more specific on the how to:

And her final finished product:

I like the mounting flange. I'm thinking about that but still using the eyelet bolts. I don't plan on making the wood fancy because I want to hang framed movie posters on them.

So far I bought the hardware and only spent $50. I won't be able to work on it more until next week. I'll keep posting.

Just wanted to chime in that IKEA has a sliding panel system for window coverings.  It's more flimsy than the solid door you have pictured, so might not work for total blackout.

When I was shopping for barn door hardware for my house, I found that agricultural, rural hardware stores had the lowest prices (and the most rustic designs).
