Genie Garage Door Opener LED Blinking 6 Times. Any Ideas?
« on: May 05, 2017, 01:43:07 PM »
Went to open my garage door yesterday. Pushed the button on the wall and nothing. No click, no partial movement, etc. If I press the up and down arrows on the opener itself the chain/lift/door moves as expected. The opener is a Genie Pro Model 1024. The green LED light is blinking 6 times on the opener. Unplugged unit, let set overnight, no change when plugging back in. Still 6 blinks on the green LED. Found the manual (see link below). Troubleshooting doesn't say anything about 6 blinks. Only goes up to 5 in the manual. Any idea what the issue is?

Sounds like the remote is trying to link to the opener. Follow your manuals instructions, usually involves hitting the link button on the opener itself, then holding down the remote button until it makes connection, but your manual will detail the order of the steps and what to expect.

Physically, this looks a whole lot like the unit I have.  Mine is branded as an "Overhead Garage Door Opener"... but they're the same mother company.

Something similar happened to mine... but I cannot for the life of me remember if it was 6 blinks or just an eternal number of blinks.  Unplugging reset it for me.  Or... it did the first few times this happened.  Eventually, this stopped working.  I went through everything... made sure the eyes were aligned, etc.

I have a 2 car garage with 2 single doors and separate door openers. In desperation, I tried swapping the motherboards.  The problem followed the motherboard.  Through more googling I finally decided that the motherboard was bad and replaced it.  It's worked ever since.  (Whether that was the actual problem or I just hid the problem by replacing the board... we will never know.)

The power in my rural area sucks.  I get tons of little spikes and drop outs every day.  I have a whole house surge protector... but that isn't 100% coverage.  I have started adding outlet surge protectors on pretty much every 120v appliance I have that contains computerized electronics.  Based on other issues, I am guessing my problem was dirty power zapping the mobo.

The board I bought was a Genie board.  I found it on ebay new in box at about 1/2 of what the local Overhead Door distributor was selling them for.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the issue is happening even when hitting the hard wired button.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'm going to have to order the motherboard. Around $65 shipped.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
