Gas dryer repair
« on: July 05, 2016, 03:51:56 PM »
My dryer is not producing heat.  The igniter glows but the flame does not light, and then the dryer exhaust smells strongly of natural gas.  I tested all the parts that the repairclinic videos recommended testing, and everything looks fine.

I'm under the impression that components may have problems despite showing a normal reading with continuity meters.  I'm thinking about replacing the igniter and the solenoids and see if that takes care of the problem.  Does that sound like a reasonable plan?

Just replace the igniter - It may glow, but over time, sometimes they don't glow hot enough anymore.

I ended up ordering both parts before I got any replies and decided to just replace them both since I had the dryer disassembled and the solenoids are relatively cheap parts.  Replaced them both and the dryer is working again!  I can definitely see a difference with the igniter.  The glow is noticeably brighter now.

Just wanted to say a public thank you to Kapiira for the repairclinic videos and for the encouraging PMs.  I was able to find the thermal fuse, test it, and replace it, and now my dryer is humming away, just in time for two loads of cloth diapers.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
