freezer shelf replacement
« on: January 20, 2016, 10:00:46 AM »
I would like to add a couple more shelves whirlpool fridge/freezer - in the freezer section.  They are made of glass and will cost more than $80 each!!  Yikes!!   Does anyone have any links or ideas?  The shelves measure 30 x 42 cms and I honestly wouldn't mind wire shelves or even baskets would be much better.

Thanks!

Look for a used one of the same type. In my area, there is a recycling program that pays $75 to recycle old, but still functioning units. Buy one that's cheap via CL, etc, remove the parts you need and recycle the rest. Alternately, check second-hand appliance dealers for used parts. Take an existing shelf with you when you shop to be sure of a match.

I have little white wire shelves in my freezer and they work well.  Once you put stuff on them, it will probably look fine.

May I ask where you got the white wire shelves from?

Try Closet Maid/Rubbermaid wire closet shelves from Home Depot or Lowes.  They'll cut to the correct size for you.

I'm using a wire shelf that I got at Walmart for cheap.  It's held up for more than 10yrs. And still working just fine.

I can't remember since they were purchased in about 1998 ish.   They do not fit the space exactly and they do not connect to the actual appliance in anyway but sit on the shelf.  Between moving from various apartments and purchasing a new refrigerator a few years back, they have been used in about 5 different fridges.

My advice is to just buy something fairly cheap that will fit and then put your items on it.  Mine don't match exactly and it looks fine.  Even if yours doesn't look good - how many people see inside your freezer anyway?

Well,  I ordered an undershelf basket from amazon for $10 which seems fine and holds the smaller packages well. http://amzn.com/B008UOXJIS

I didn't know that the DIY stores would cut the wire shelving to size - so will also investigate that.

Walmart - I'll take a look.  Thanks all

I need one more shelf, maybe 2 so I'll investigate the options above.
