Finding a Triple Pane Sliding Glass Door
« on: July 30, 2016, 07:59:26 AM »
I want to build a deck and want to buy a 5 or 6 ft triple or quadruple pane sliding glass door if possible and not cost prohibitive.  Anyone have one or know where I can get one?

I want more than a double pain argon injected glazed door for insulation if the price isn't going to kill me.  I am not sure what my budget is for that yet.

Thanks.

Triple panes show up on Craigslist from time to time - lots of contractors order one door but then the design changes or the owners go with something else (e.g. french doors). I've never seen a quadruple pane.

FWIW, triple-pane sliding doors are effing heavy.

Craigslist is a good idea.  Thanks.

What about triple pane French doors?  Some have pointed out that because a sliding door is on a track, it may really leak anyway, which would defeat the purpose of triple pane anyway.

Thanks.

We have installed new patio doors before.  At a certain point there is a diminishing return for the extra R-value.  Also - I would re-think the five foot slider.  We bought one (norwood) to save money and not have to do a custom size. The widest it opens is 22 inches clear.  This is fine for us because all we needed was a window really and a small sliding door was actually cheaper than a huge window.  It was really heavy. The installation just about killed my DH and his brother - both small but super strong fellows.  And the window delivery guys were really pissed at the sales rep because I held them to the price included carrying it around the back and down 18 steps.
We are replacing another slider soon (Friday hopefully) This time we went with Rehaul (Euro Vinyl)  because it is replacing a large custom size in the living room.  It is vinyl to match the large bay window that came new with the house.  I can't recall if it is triple or double pane but is it the most efficient that we can afford before a big leap in price.  Due to the size, we decided to pay for someone else to install it.
