Electric Towel Warmer and Heater
« on: November 15, 2012, 01:42:10 PM »
Hi,
I'm looking at adding an electrical towel warmer and fan combo near my shower.  I do know that it cannot be in the shower but I have a very unique setup ( See attached drawing).

Basically I want to put a towel warmer/ heater combo made by convectair (Diva model) at the far left end of the area.  Note the shower cure encompasses the towel warmer.  The towel warmer would be about 8' from the main shower heads and jets and less from the rain shower head but it will be shooting down to the floor.

There is a glass wall about running on top of the shower curb for the first 5' from the right end of the shower.  Shower drain is also at the far right end of the shower.  The design is to have a walk in shower with no door.  You shower, walk out the the far left and drip into the same shower pan and then grab your towel.

I'm no expert on the electrical code but before I get in an electrician I want to make sure I can do this.  Does anyone see any problems with doing this the way that I am proposing?

I don't see and possibility that any water will be sprayed on the electrical warmer except possibly from the hand held shower head.

Might it be more mustachian to find your hot water pipe, pipe it in through the wall, snaking back and forth a few times, and create a towel warmer through the convection of your hot water?  It'd be quite simple and inexpensive.  I wouldn't expect it to make your towel steamy hot, but certainly warmed nicely while you shower.  However, if you take mustache type 3min showers it may not work.  Just my 2c.

I know nothing about electrical work so I'm no help here except to say that my hubs has always wanted a towel warmer but I'm not up for paying $70 for a contraption that takes up floorspace and is rarely used. I had an idea for a hack on this recently while adjusting my heating pad to warm up my bed linens before climbing in. I'm going to wrap his towel around the heating pad before he hops in the shower tonight. Oughta work. Super cheap and no wiring required. :P

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
