DIY Reed Diffusers?
« on: August 18, 2015, 06:56:53 PM »
Our apartment smells fine, but I want it to smell like REI when I walk through the door.

Just looked into buying one and boy are they expensive! High quality ones (that is, high Amazon reviews) run about $60 for initial kit and $30 for refill. Each refill is supposed to last about 6 months. That's roughly $5/month per each diffuser. I'm expecting our home to need about 2-3 diffusers to be effective. At $10-15/month recurring this is way to expensive.

There appears to be 2 DIY options:
1) Buy pre-made supplies at candle supply-type shop (www.candlesandsupplies.net). Estimated cost: $2/month per diffuser

2) Buy essential oils and sweet almond oil. Estimated cost <$2/month. The only drawback is that these seem to have mixed reviews online. Some say they do not work very well.

However, there is no guarantee that the DIY options will be high quality. I don't want to sink ANY money into a piece of crap.

Experiences, advice, best places to buy, and other related opinions are welcome.
