DIY adjustable bike repair stand
« on: December 17, 2014, 05:11:20 PM »
After a few flats, i decided i need a bicycle maintenance stand. Ive seen them for between $100 and $300, but figured i could probably do it for less. I thought id post it here in case it helps keep anyone else from wrestling with bicycles and chairs and 2x4s and garbage cans or whatever while they're trying to change a tire.

You need:

2 hooks, i used the kind that you hang brooms and rakes from. Ive tried to attach a photo, so hopefully it goes through.

2 2x4s, mine are just short of 5 feet. Probably anywhere between 3 to 5 feet will work okay.

1 step ladder.

Total cost - i dont know, i already had everything.

Step 1 - screw the hooks into the ends of the 2x4s.

Step 2 - stick the 2x4s between the rungs of the ladder.

Step 3 - put your bicycle on the hooks.

Some notes, i have a heavy ladder, ymmv based on yours. Keep the bike close to the ladder, or it will tend to want to tip towards you. If you want it higher, put it between higher rungs, same for lower. Ignore the unmustachian motorcycle in the background, i'll get rid of it when I'm ready.

Unrelated - i stuck in a picture of my PVC bicycle stand. It was adapted off a plan i found on the internet. It actually works pretty well.

Hopefully thats helpful to someone. Happy fixin!
