Dishwasher Leak
« on: April 21, 2018, 08:10:45 AM »
My dishwasher is leaking and making buzzing, almost grinding sounds during its cycle. The diagnostic cycle error was it cannot sense the position of the disc that the diverter motor spins. I think the grommet is leaking and water ruined the diverter motor. I haven't removed the whole dish washer to get a definite answer. I am thinking about replacing the grommet and diverter motor. Whirlpool doesn't sell just the diverter shaft grommet and claims I have to replace the whole sump housing. I am seeing just the grommet on a third party site for $20. The sump housing is $100 from both Whirlpool and 3rd parties. The diverter motor is $50 from most places. Does anyone think calling Whirlpool would be worth while. What about just buying the $20 grommet? Should I pull the dishwasher before buying anything?

It turns out that $20 part was something different. I ended up ordering the dump housing and diverter from appliancepartspros.com I wish this topic https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/ask-a-mustachian/how-much-would-you-pay-for-a-good-dishwasher/ existed when I bought the thing. It isn't even 2 years old yet.

Waiting on parts. I pulled it out and confirmed the leak was coming from the diverter seal.
