Concrete Patio Sealing
« on: July 17, 2017, 01:13:16 PM »
Anyone sealed their concrete patio? Looking to do mine.

The contractor told us to seal our patio every other year. Its been two years since we've had it poured, and it is looking like its time to seal it.

I got a quote for $800, which seems crazy. I've been looking around the web and seeing mixed things. Some places recommend just power washing then rolling on a sealer, other make it seem like you need to wash, scrub, etch, etc then roll or spray.

What is really necessary? What product do you recommended? Tips?

These are the two I've been looking at:

Thoughts and opinions?

I was going to ask why you would want the Lowes product, since it's an epoxy, which  wouldn't seem like something that gets renewed every few years? Then I followed the link, and I could be wrong, but doesn't it seem like Lowes just added the word "epoxy" to a product that isn't an epoxy at all.

There is a forum, the garage journal, that has a separate section devoted to flooring and lots of info. on various sealing products, techniques, etc....

What kind of sealer did you use when you first poured it?  If you used a solvent based type, you can throroughly clean the concrete, buy a jug of Xylol (Xylene?) and "remelt" the sealer using the Xylene and make it good as new without any thickness buildup.

I have no idea. The contractor did it.

Forgot to mention it is stamped and colored

They probably just used a cheap, simple cure-N-seal.
I'd call them up and ask them what they used and how they recommend you reseal.

Stamped and colored concrete will look better and last longer if you keep it sealed.
