Changing a watch battery
« on: January 06, 2015, 08:59:47 PM »
Does anyone know how to change a watch battery? I got an older but decent-quality Timex from a thrift store for just a few bucks. Only problem is that the battery is dead. It was cheap so I'm willing to accept the risks of DIY.

Get a small flathead screwdriver; pry off the back cover. There will be an indent somewhere that can be pried off. Once you do, the battery will be exposed; it has a model number printed on it. That model number should be found in your local electronics store, possibly even in big box retailers, and definitely off amazon or ebay.

I did a search on Youtube listing my specific watch model and found a couple of videos showing how to do it.

If you can't find a suitable flathead screwdriver, a butter knife will often work in a pinch. I have a super fancy watch with a diamond on it, no less. Never pried open with anything but a butter knife since the day I paid a dollar for it at a thrift store.

Look at this fatcat, paying a dollar for a butter knife. At my local dollar store, a buck buys you two.

Heh. Sorry - the butter knives were three for a dollar (bought before the dollar store went up on price). The watch was a dollar.
