Bathtub coating peeling away
« on: February 24, 2014, 01:35:02 PM »
Sorry that I don't know the correct terms to describe this. I have a common white tub for my shower. There is a layer like a thin sheet of rubbery plastic that has started peeling off of the bottom of the tub. I think the tub is pretty old, don't know how old though.

All the stuff I can find online jumps right into replacing the tub or removing the coating and refinishing.

Is this something that needs to be addressed now? What happens if I don't do anything? Can I just remove the rest of the coating and leave it like that? Any suggestions for how to fix it?

Thanks!

Greg

Do you own it?  The tub was likely refinished with an epoxy coating at some point and the coating is failing.  It will take some time for the coating to come off completely, and then you can see what the condition of the porcelain underneath is.

Yeah, I own it with the house. Sounds like nothing bad will happen if I let it keep peeling away?
