Hot and humid pipes sweating, result of no ac
« on: July 14, 2013, 09:18:01 PM »
Just have a question.  This year has been hotter and more humid then most.  I have been having issues with food water pipes sweating and dripping into the t bar ceiling in my basement suite.  I was leaving for vacation and loaned my renter my old window ac as a short term solution.  It seemed to get the temp and humidity down but is costing me big $$.  Any ideas, the pipes are in-insulated as its not a requirement where I live.

Get some pipe wrap, or pipe insulation.  Just cause the code doesn't require it doesnt mean it isn't a good idea, and it will save you money in the long run.  AS long as the pipes are easily accessible that is.

I thought about the insulation it will be a tough job with the pipe being plastic and fastened to floor joists. I I was thinking some kind of insulation I could staple over it to the joist not too keen on disturbing 25 year old plastic pipe to get a full wrap on it.

I wouldn't want to either, They do make spray on pipe insulation that might suit your needs, spray foam might work in a pinch but will be a PITA if you have issues later on down the line.  You could also use insulation tape and just slide it between the pipe and the floor, tie consuming but will solve the problem long term.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
