$22 wall mounted bicycle repair stand.
« on: January 26, 2014, 07:15:09 PM »
I've been stubbornly doing all my own cleaning, tuning, repairs over the last couple years without any sort of repair stand. I've been hounding craiglist looking for a used one to pick up, but the only ones I've seen are overpriced pieces of garbage. I solved that issue today by building my own!

Cost only $22, and took about 5 minutes to assemble and attach. Just finished doing a quick cleaning/tune up and it was by far the easiest, quickest, and cleanest session I've had yet. Parts list, pictures, and directions in the imgur link.

Nice!
I screwed a wall-mount bike holder thing from home depot into our fence outside for chain cleaning, similar idea.

I have a Ping-Pong table that works nicely to hold the bike.  Combined with my cycling trainer I do ground up bike builds without any problems.  I like the concept of a "real" bike holder, but have never found the need.  :-)

I'm curious if there is a reason why the pipe isn't angled upwards to allow you to just place the bike on the pipe with a cloth to keep it from scratching?  I've been wanting to make something to park my bike easier at home since mine doesn't have a kickstand.  Currently I have one of those stands which hooks onto the rear wheel which I just leave on my bike with a bungee to keep it up.  I suppose it might not balance as well, and would also move while making adjustments.

How do you use the ping-pong table to hold the bike?

It has multiple ways to help me.  Great surface to flip the bike upside down on (for when bars and seat are in place) when doing wheel/chain work.

Can also hook the bars and seat on it when standing up to steady it.

One of my builds I used the back of a couch to do similar things.  Be creative with your furniture!  :-)

I was looking at wall mounted bike racks on Amazon and realized that the two things which I had no idea what they were for which are on my garage wall which were there when I bought the house are bike racks!  I don't like how high they are, I'd rather they not require so much lifting for my daily commuter.  I also think they look to be a little close to each other to be useful for two bikes, I might experiment with them tonight now that I know what I have.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
