MarketWatch Article Referenced in 'Colorado Metip' Post
« on: September 02, 2014, 12:54:09 PM »
Just read that MarketWatch article referenced in the latest blog post and thought it was great.  Then I made the mistake of reading the comments.  Holy seething with hatred angry lynch mob with picthforks against MMM!  Apparently there's a special place reserved in hell for our friend Pete.

Most of the comments boil down to:

"People can't retire early because healthcare."

Then there's a smattering of the usual comments from the Internet Retirement Police arguing about word definitions.

But there's a lot of total insanity such as:

"A huge part of raising kids is teaching them to work hard and be responsible. Their son needs to see his dad going to work to support him family. He's not getting this from dad. Fail."

(So, you're a better dad if you aren't around all week, have to check your Blackberry messages at night, and have to go to work conferences on weekends, I guess?)

And this tidbit of nutbar-ism:

"Mr money mustache wishes to protect his family privacy and name, because most of his income comes from checks from mom, food stamps, subsidized housing, and Medicaid...Never listen to a clown who won't disclose who he is....."

What the hell is wrong with people?  The first thing I thought when I stumbled into MMM's blog was, "What's this all about then?  Hmmm... Very interesting indeed!"   Seems a high percentage of people immediately knee-jerk to "Fuck you!!  Your life and what you say sucks!!"
I wonder what draws some of us in but makes others almost immediately lash out?  I've always been open to entertaining (or at least hearing out) new ideas which might differ from my own.  Are the rest of you like that as well?

I'm constantly looking for ways to improve myself, so that does cause me to be fairly open to other ideas.

I think it really comes back to marketing (that's my field). You have your early adopters, who are willing to take risks to try try out new things. But you also have your "laggards", which are people who will only try something if everything else has proven it works and is doing it.

The question is whether these different types of people are determined through genetics, or how they were raised, or both?

Don't let other people affect you.

Some yahoos commenting on Yahoo (or marketwatch, or whatever) doesn't affect anything in my life.  So why give them headspace?
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

^+1.  While I always find the comments of a lot of people on most articles probably entertaining, in most cases they just seemingly don't want to do a reality check of themselves and its easier to take the side of Negativism for some unfortunately. To me just reiterates how off base our society is and why so many have financial troubles.

Comments to news articles are the cesspool of the internet.  I much prefer coming to established community discussion boards where people can have a constructive conversation.
