How to start a blog - some 5 years later
« on: August 05, 2018, 10:14:38 PM »
I知 about to get a blog website set up for my wife, and just looked at the Jan 2013 post on the subject. Is Bluehost still a good choice for web hosting?  If not, any other suggestions?  I知 gonna use HTML to create the content, not Wordpress or any of the easy-build options, so all I need is good quality and cost-effective web hosting. Thanks!

We use bluehost, and have been for...6 years now. It's bottom of the barrel webhosting (the same company owns hostgator as well).

It's fine, and is probably the cheapest option for you. Do a short-term agreement and see if the blog "sticks." You can buy a better plan later on.

What are you goals for the blog, and why are you doing html vs. wordpress?

We went with Bluehost for ours. At the beginning I don't see a lot of benefits of using various other hosting sites. Use what is easiest for now.

Thanks!  Looks like I got two responses, both favoring Bluehost, so I値l go with that 😊.  My wife痴 got some interesting ideas for the blog, we値l see how it goes. I知 thinking HTML partially because I知 a software engineer, and partially because my wife wants an extremely minimalist presentation, that basic HTML should be able to handle.

Thanks!  I値l go ahead and give Bluehost a try, and see how things go. After awhile, I値l report back with an update and the name of the blog, which will probably start up next month...🙏🤓

Trust me, I get the impulse to want to code it yourself in basic HTML, but a simple Wordpress theme (they have to exist, there are literally tens of millions of Wordpress sites out there) would probably be easier to maintain once she gets past a few posts.  You want your wife to be able to work on this herself, and not need to come to you with coding issues/requests.  I made that mistake with my GF's website a few years back.  Just a thought. :)

Posting to follow - I think I want to start a blog too.  I will check into Bluehost.   Thanks!

Bluehost is owned by EIG so I would never use them. Here is a starting point on choosing a good web host:
