Title: 42 months to go - need advice for a productive retirement practice now
Post by: Simple1_2_3 on September 22, 2017, 12:43:27 PM
I think we are set -
1. House and car (just one) are paid for
2. have saved up 21 times of our annual income in equity and ROTH
3. one of us has a pension and we have no kids, no pets and of course, no TVs.
4. Yes, we still have too many stuffs in the house - we are thinking about opening an eBay store when we are "free".
5. We need to watch blood sugar, blood pressure and still got a lot of dental work.  One of us has Thyroid issue - we are just your typical baby boomers when it comes to our health.

We are looking to officially retire from work in early 2021.  One of us is already heavily engaged in doing volunteer works and one is babysitting a veg garden in a community garden. We also have caregiver responsibilities for an aging parent, so we have no free time to do nothing, and probably don't know how anyway.

Our work is still challenging to keep us mentally semi-stimulated.  The politics and infighting no longer bother us  - at least that is what we are telling ourselves!   We joke that we are just practicing a productive retirement now.

What else should we be doing now in preparation for the real retirement?  Many thanks.

Thank you.  The list is a very helpful tool, so glad that I asked.
