Who has their 2017 filed?
« on: February 13, 2018, 12:55:19 PM »
Friendly fun question. Who's going to get their taxes done first?

I'm still waiting for the last couple papers to come in. I'm wondering when some of you ultra organized folks get your taxes done.

Fixed the typo, I was talking about the 2018 filing season for the 2017 taxes...

Well you'd have to really be on the ball to have your 2018 taxes filed already. We filed our 2017 tax return yesterday as that was when we got the last forms we needed from Vanguard.

Still waiting for the T4 and T5 statements as well. Maybe end of the month?

You can file taxes the year before in Canada? Or am I missing something?

I'd love to file early, but I know I won't get my T4 until the due date or just past it, and if history is any indicator, I'll get an ammended T4 mid April (apparently they meet the letter of the law by giving me my T4 by the end of February even if they know it's wrong, at least I assume it's wrong since I always get an ammendment)

And I never seem to get all of my T3 and T5 slips until the end of March.

Filed last week, got our refunds yesterday and today. Not huge refunds, but we maxed out 401k's last year finally, and my husband got catch up contributions last year for the first time. We still would have owed at that point until we imported all of the It's Deductible charitable contributions. It's a pain in the ass to track every single item we donate, but that really adds up over the course of a year!

Except I just realized this is the Canada forum; I clicked on it from the forum above, sorry!

I had three employers last year and I'm still waiting on T4s from two of them. Funnily enough the least organized employer was the one that had it ready first. I recall Questrade taking quite a while last year so I expect it'll be another month or so before I'm totally ready. But I have already started filling out my return because I love tax time!

Netfile opens on the 26th.  Will file sometime the week of so long as I get my T4 and T4A in the mail by then.  Everything else is prepped and ready to go in SimpleTax :)

I don't  support paying Revenue Canada until I absolutely have to.  I don't even have any tax forms at all yet...but I did pre purchase my online filing software way back during a Boxing day sale.

I find usually my Vanguard taxable investments are the last forms to arrive, usually around the end of Feb.  Those taxable investments mean that I always have to pay additional taxes, so I wait until the last couple of weeks to do that because I wait for the Q1 dividends to hit my investment accounts and use that money to pay my taxes on the previous year's dividends.

So, likely I will be in the race for last place, not first.

My DH entered all the numbers so that it is all ready to hit SEND but we won't be doing that until the last minute.  He is an accountant and won't have time to do my taxes later.  And we needed to figure out how much we really wanted to put in his RSP.  This is the earliest he has ever done them - in fact he had to wait until the software update was completed at work before he could run them.

Not even started. I have to do a (final one, for me!) US tax return first, and in order to do that I need a 1042S from my brokerage. As well as a T3. And they come *late*.

So, US tax return to work that out, before I can claim the US tax paid, then onto the Canadian side.
