Using points for flights is not really worth it for economy flights, especially with Qantas points, where the taxes cost a significant chunk of a cash fare.
The exception is in peak periods or on routes with little competition and high prices.

Victorians can get a $50 rebate for comparing their energy on the government’s comparison site https://compare.energy.vic.gov.au/

You don’t need to switch, just search. Free money for something you should be doing every now and then anyway!

Ratesetter are doing a bonus for new sign-ups again. I have a code that gets us both $75 if you put $2k in the 3 or 5 yr loan markets. We've got 10% of our stache invested with them and we're pretty happy.

I had a look, because we are going to be users of Victorian energy in about 3 weeks time.  The site gave us the best deals for electricity and gas based on our projections of usage, but I didn't see any rebate offer come up.  Does anyone know if it is just for those that are current users, or am I doing it wrong?

Just last week I signed up.
Edit: I didn't look at the date on the post. The referral bonus may not be there any more, but a $75 sign-up bonus is.
Can I share a referral bonus?

Will delete if not allowed

Free $100 for you and me if you sign up for an ING bank account using referral code CIY527

- when opening a new orange every day account and depositing at least $1000 per calendar month within any month before 28/02/2018
- And opening a savings maximiser account by 28/02/2018
- And using their card to make 5 or more purchases

As an added bonus no international transaction fees when using the card overseas and no ATM fees worldwide

Did it yesterday. Big notice on the top of the front page. Put in data. Big notice in orange on the top of the page where you get the rebate.

Ahh hang on a minute... I see they are waiving the fee for the Amex, but not on the MasterCard/Visa? Still have to pay $250 + $50 to link it to Qantas FF points... have I got that right?

Yeah looks like it Marty. So that makes the 80,000 with the Amex free (might have linking fee)($3000 spend in 3 months....can be tricky with Amex depending on your bills etc without incurring transaction fees), or 40,000 with Visa for $250 (same spends). The latter is a bit expensive and I don't think quite worth it (its getting close to the cost ratio for purchasing cheap airfares...still probably cheaper...but I'm in this for better ratios than that hehe).

I did this today as I got my first Victorian power and gas bill.  Just a reminder to everyone else to get your free $50

Feeling a little out-of-touch here, but what do you do with the points.  I was thinking of signing up for one of these as we will hit the expenses required easily in the next few months.  (House rebuild under way) Where can I use 120,000 points?  Can I redeem them for cash?  Can I use them for flights?

Ah.  That makes sense then.  I will look further into it.  Haven't had a credit card for, well, forever.

I signed up for the ANZ Black Rewards card about two years ago and got the bonus 75000 QFF, then cancelled it before the fee was due about a year ago. I'm looking around for a new card and I see this offer is available again (or still?). Has anyone had one of these cards, cancelled and then applied for it again? I don't want to apply if it will be rejected because I previously had one, and then get a black mark on my rating.

Hi Ozbeach,  I am curious about how you got away with cancelling the card and not pay the annual fee but used the bonus points. I would have thought that would not be ok? In other words they would still charge you the annual fee upon cancellation.  Thanks.

I think ozbeach means the annual fee for the next year. They often have the offer with no annual fee for the first year

Exactly right -- the first year was fee-free, and the QFF points were credited after spending the required amount in the first three months. I called and cancelled in month ten before the next year's annual fee was charged.

Just closed my ANZ Black card - my first experiment with rewards offers. I made around $400, which could have been more if I had shifted my direct debits over and made a conscious effort to spend on that card but I am lazy :)

Overall worth it, but I would have been more impressed with the ROI if I hadn't of had to attend a branch for the ID check.

Thinking about the Westpac Platinum next - no annual fee with 60k points equivalent to $250 Mastercard gift cards.

CUA is having a refer a friend offer where we both get $75 if you become a member and open one of their high interest accounts. You have to deposit $2k and jump through a couple of hoops but if you were thinking of banking with them, let me know!

I'm headed back to Uni next year (and unemployed at the moment...about to start casual work as a carer) to do a Masters in Nursing.

I'm currently on the ANZ Black, and have about a month to cancel it and get a new card.

Any tips on cards for students on Austudy, with basically no fee, but still earning some QFF or Virgin points?

I'm using a Qantas Cash mastercard. It's intended for when you travel - you preload in a nominated currency before you go overseas. But, you can load it with AU$ and use it here. You get 1 QFF point for every $4 spent, so it's not brilliant; but there are no fees or charges. It is a debit card though, not credit, so you have to be vigilant in keeping it topped up.

Hmm, good to know about that. I'm more keen on a credit card; I have a mortgage so it helps offset some interest

Check out creditcardcompare . com .au
They have excellent search tools in which you can choose which points scheme you prefer. Qantas and Virgin and generally the two most useful and with the best cards available to them from banks. Generally, you probably want to stick to Visa or Mastercard rather than Amex .... Moustachian people aren't likely to use Amex that much (not accepted everywhere).
