Claiming Vanguard ETF Management Fees?
« on: July 06, 2018, 02:23:41 AM »
Does anyone know:

a. If you can claim Vanguard ETF fund management fees at tax time? I am thinking yes from looking at: https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/investing/investing-in-shares/

b. If you can claim it, how you can find the figure for the fees charged over the year? I had a comb through my annual tax statement from last years Vanguard annual tax statements but couldn't find anything. I'm not sure if you just have to approximate it based on the fee % stated on the website?

Thank you for any help on the above!

No you can't claim it. Since you don't eventually pay tax on the gross gains before management fees, you can't deduct it, otherwise you are essentially getting a double benefit.

Your investment returns are reduced by the management fees, so it all nets out.
