WTF Houston?
« on: October 29, 2015, 10:04:36 PM »
Not that I frequent Hooters or a similar establishment called 'Twin Peaks', but https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB8QqQIwAGoVChMItr3D3aTpyAIVBXgmCh14ogoT&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2Fvideos%2Fus%2F2015%2F10%2F29%2Fwaco-biker-shooting-surveillance-video-lavandera-pkg.cnn&usg=AFQjCNHEXGaEfgcB7vfGw8Y62CJ0qm8fHA&sig2=Ijo9mp7-njLTnQfywDvmpg

And this is just one of many 'sensational national stories' this week.  Either the nation is getting more sensitive and sensational to everyday occurrences, or things are getting worse.  http://www.khou.com/story/news/local/2015/10/28/katy-isd-responds-to-teachers-controversial-assignment/74778804/

Please excuse my lazy and elderly cut and paste, but I wanted people to be able to see what I'm worried about.  It's definitely getting weird around here and I hope anyone and everyone can comment.  Is it better or worse elsewhere?

Not that I'm worried, mind you, since I'm on this site and have my shit together.  But Mustachians probably see these things in the news and wonder WTF, or maybe it's just me?

Things are better than they've ever been in history. Don't fall into the common trap by thinking what you see on the evening news is at all representative of how often these type of events have occurred historically.

Well, the first one was in Waco, and there's reason to believe that many of the shooters were police or undercover police.

C'mon man, you live in Houston so you should know the difference between Houston and Waco.

If you really want weird, start reading the news from Florida!

Good replies.  Sorry, sometimes I wander off from this forum and just can't believe what is going on out there!

It might depend on what end of the political spectrum you are on.  If one end sees things getting worse, the other end must see things getting better.

Either way, media outlets are there to sell.  Getting folks all worked up sells.

I've been avoiding tv news. It's quite effective, though somewhat surprising when you find out a week late that Russia bombed something...
