Where to put my savings

The time has come for me to close my Betterment account and transfer most of what I have in there over to Vanguard.  I currently have my savings with them as well, and wanted to check if there's an optimal spot to keep them before I call Vanguard and tell them what to transfer over.  Is Vanguard a good spot for savings?  What kind of account?  Is it better to do some sort of CD ladder I've read about on here a few times, or some other type of account?

I use Ally and have been happy with them. Easy transfers. I believe their CD interest rates were quite low the last time I looked at them, didn't really seem worth it.

Ditto Ally.  Mostly it's the convenience.  As others have said the transfers are easy.  They are also updating their processes/tech to speed up their transfer times, which should come into affect soon.  That was my chief complaint with them (3-5 business days should now be ~2 days).

There are other online banks too.

Just keep it where you prefer to bank. 

Personally, I love having my checking and savings at the same bank.  Transfers between accounts are instantaneous, so I feel very comfortable keeping a smaller cushion in checking.  If they're with different institutions I have to deal with a lag that makes me nervous.

Just recently I had the mystical "come up with a $1k quickly" scenario.  Ten clicks online and the money was there immediately.  It's worth the slightly reduced interest rate.

I use Ally for both my savings and checking. So far so good. I do also have an account elsewhere for depositing cash though.
