Where do you buy your pillows?
« on: April 26, 2018, 06:52:39 PM »
I’m looking for some new pillows. Current ones are flat and uncomfortable. Any recommendations? I want something soft, durable, relatively inexpensive, and environmentally friendly.

Aldi has pillows on sale this week. That's where I usually buy them.

Sleep Number Curved Comfort Fit Pillows when they go on sale.  I'm a side sleeper.  They're expensive, but I have never had neck problems since getting them.

I've been using the same pillows for close to 20 years.  If you find a pillow that you like, why would you ever buy another one?

Pillows, like other bedding and some household items, collects dust mites.  Good to get fresh ones to avoid sleeping on those.  Also better to change them out if you have allergies.

You can wash pillows in a washing machine. With my old Maytag I pop 2 in to balance the load. Stuff in the dryer or hang to dry.

The dust mites are keeping them fluffy.

I've also been using the same pillow for 20 or 25 years. I think my mom had some down added to it at one point when I was a kid. I had no idea that people frequently replaced pillows.

I recently bought two fancypants memory foam pillows at Sleep Country (Canada) when they were on for 2-4-1. Still expensive even at half price but oh so comfortable.

Costco.  Down pillows.

+1 and they have organic cotton ones that come on sale a couple times a year. End up being like $10 for 2 of them I think? Normally like $14 for the two I think.

Otherwise, I have a latex foam one that has been in great shape for nearly 15 years now. Since it's a dense foam, the shape has stayed and there isn't really anywhere for dust mites to live in the same way! I just wash the cover periodically. They're expensive to buy compared to regular pillows, but last forever.

What's the difference between organic cotton and inorganic cotton?

What's the difference between organic cotton and inorganic cotton?

The type of pesticides and antifungals applied to the cotton during growing. In the case of this product, it's also unbleached.

Not sure if that was rhetorical, but there ya go.

Unless the point was to make a chemistry joke, in which case: womp womp.

Some pillows wash better than others, and you just never know until you try it. Some expensive pillows are awful afterwards, and some cheap pillows come out perfectly. But I feel like you only get so many years out of a pillow - we have allergies, and eventually, it's just time for a new pillow.

I've gotten all of mine at Ikea, I like the more filled down mix ones and they fluff up easily.
