Due to the nature of DH's position, I have to give a lot of gifts, and some of them are gorup gifts, where I need to give every person the same thing, so my own advice about keeping the person in mind doesn't apply.
We live in a place where Starbuck's doesn't have the ubiquitous Pumpkin Spice Latte, and people freak out about this. (Being neither Starbucks customer nor a coffee drinker, I don't care, but I'm amazed how often I hear people complain about this.) I found a recipe for homemade pumpkin spice syrup, and I plan on making a huge batch. I just need to find cheap little jars, and I'll tie some red ribbon around them, and if I want to get fancy, print up cards with ideas for use (over ice cream, on pancakes, in coffee drinks, added to oatmeal, mixed with spiced rum and vodka, etc.).
It's basically water, sugar (white, or white and brown if you prefer that flavor) brought to a boil, then simmer with pumpkin pie spice (or individual spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger), then add canned pumpkin added (after boiling stops), strain. You can add vanilla if you like.
