What Mustachian Thing Did You Do Today?
« on: June 16, 2017, 10:49:48 PM »
Inspired by the frequent occurrence of 'what small thing did you do today to save money' in my unread replies every time I check, I thought I'd ask the forum what Mustachian thing they did today.  My saving ways are ingrained, so I don't feel like I'm breaking much new ground when I read about others or share my money saving strategies (although I still flip through).

For example, today I felt Mustachian when I mowed my lawn.  It's something mundane that I do every week, and I didn't save money because I always do it, but I feel that it is Mustachian.  I'm quite proud that I'm out there in the Texas sun although I could easily pay a service like all my neighbors and justify that I spend my hours in the office to compensate.  Sometimes I feel silly because I do easy things to save money, but do hard things to be Mustachian.

So help me out, what Mustachian things do you do?

Electricity prices for me are cheaper at night in off-peak times. I ran my washing machine overnight.

I sold the feet of an old car roof rack for $50. They'd just been sitting around in my garage for the past four years. I also listed some snow tires on Craigslist... hopefully I'll get a bite or two.

We made a budget for husband's stipend at grad school, and then I made a spreadsheet and a Google map of available apartments that fit the budget and won't require him to drive during the weeks he's there.

Weekends are pretty mustachian for me...

1. Picked up a waist pack from the sidewalk, cleaned it, unblocked the zips. Now I have a small pack for day hikes that I have been interested in trying for a while.
2. Walked five miles (with my mostly sleeping toddler) to purchase ingredients for home-cooked food.
3. Another street find: a trike with handle that aforementioned toddler will soon be using.
4. Made breakfast for the week.
5. Did five bodyweight dips whenever I passed my gymnast rings.

GF needed the car today (vet visit) so I walked the mile to the bus stop, and then the mile on the other end to work.
After work, I'll be putting together raw meals for our dogs (from meat bought in super-bulk for super-cheap) while my GF fires up the grill to make dinner for us to eat in our back porch.
