I'm doing well so far on my recent move to being frugal and saving. However I don't make that much (42k yr gross) - I'm not college educated. I have an automotive background - went to tech school for auto body. I currently work as a claims adjuster. I need to find other avenues for income.

Figured I would ask here - what options do I have. What do you guys do for extra income?

I work Monday thru Friday 8am - 5pm

Eventually I would like to start working on my art and selling some of my pieces and start doing some custom auto body / paint work but my current living situation does not allow for this.

Hi Kevin, there are a few guys doing mobile auto repair work around here. They have their tools in a van and drive to wherever the client is. They insist on off-street parking to ensure their safety. They do stuff like tuneups, brake jobs, fuel filter replacements, oil changes. Some also do windshield repair/replacement work as a second side gig, it's high-commission work and easy to do.

One guy I know is mostly on the small engine repair side - basically works hard in the spring to get mowers tuned up, replace spark plugs and clean out the air filters, maybe a carb adjustment, swap in a new blade and take your old ones to regrind and resell. But the fact that he comes to you is huge, don't have to worry about transporting your mowers and snowblowers to a shop, so he can charge a bit of a premium. And very low overhead. Not sure how the insurance would work, but if you got it up and running and then talked to some agents about professional liability, you'd probably spend a few hundred a year for a policy to protect you.

This is a bit of a tangent but if you like claims, there is better paying work out there as you progress.  There are jobs in liability arising out of classic cars, commercial general liability claims, environmental claims, etc... Keep your eyes open and if you can read and apply policy terms, you may be able to find higher paying work. Good luck!

Auto body experience?

There is a guy in my town that has a nice, clean, brightly painted van advertising paintless dent repair.  He totally works out of the van.  He mostly does work for the various auto dealers in town.  Whenever a friend has used him, he's been parked with a tent set up behind a different dealer.

If you have experience in auto body work, this seems like a good possible fit.

Churn credit cards for signup bonuses - I've gotten ~270k in airline miles and ~$600 in cash.

Open bank accounts for signup bonuses - I've gotten $1400 so far and expect to have ~$2k by the end of the year.

I've recently started buying gift cards at a discount and reselling them to the likes of Cardpool, Cardcash, etc. I've only profited ~$350 so far but I'm trying to find ways to scale this up more. To do this well you need to maximize eBay Bucks, shopping portals, and credit card rewards.

I'm finally down from 5 jobs/hustles to just 2 now, soon to be one, and I'm looking forward to the free time. But I do these things:
1) Consulting for non-profits on database/technology (this is connected to my day job, and i'm at the point I turn down work 90% of the time)
2) Podcast- I have a 2 podcasts, one loses money, the other earns it.
3) Delivering bagels on the weekend- for a long time I delivered bagels on the weekend for a small bakery. Paid $25 for 1.5 hours of riding my bike. Plus free baggggeeellls.
4) Promo girl - kinda the worst, but I used to do "promo" for various beers/wines/liquors at bars on the weekend. Job: look hot, talk to douchebags, give them free booze. Pays decently for 2-3 hours of work but is soul sucking

I could do some side body work but I got out of it because I absolutely hate it lol

I have looked at possibly getting trained in pdr and doing that on the side. I also need to get my side airbrush / custom graphics type of work going for auto/motorcycles - i'm sure that could be some good side money for now.

If I could get away with it not feel like i'm a bad catholic for doing so I just might...pretty sure my luck - I would be found out by someone I know very quickly! I'm really interested in the side business with amazon - selling goods directly.

I'm also looking at relay rides. Might be a good way for me to start riding my bicycle or moto to work and possibly lower my cost on my vehicle - if I can have at least 1/2 of my car payment made per month that would be great !

Heh heh heh...  Yeah, I know 99.99% of people seeing the suggestion won't seriously entertain it, but maybe one or two will!  Plus, other threads have seen accusations of sexism when sex work was suggested to a female OP, so I wanted to ensure the forums are equal-opportunity when it comes to the variety of suggestions offered. ;)
